I am an American, by birth and conviction. I am a Jew, by blood and by conviction. I am a Zionist, by conviction (but please don't let my personal bias keep you from reading my piece). I am a (classical) liberal, by conviction. I am a Democrat, but maybe not for long, given how many
Democratic House members just voted to suspend US aid to Israel (103 out of 211). Not that suspending military aid to Israel is necessarily a bad idea, but that vote is symbolic of being anti-Israel. Only one Republican voted to deny US aid to Israel. While I will never vote for an anti-Israel (liberal or otherwise) Democrat, I will never vote for a pro-Israel Republican (MAGA or moderate), as I just do not like what Republicans (even the moderates) stand for, Israel notwithstanding. Greens have a history of anti-Zionism if not antisemitism. Libertarians are extreme Republicans. What’s a guy gonna do? I can always write myself in!
I am writing this piece – Israel: Defending the Indefensible – in the hope of changing hearts and minds, knowing full well that
most human beings live their lives in Echo Chambers and rarely change their minds, as it means admitting that they were wrong. Many human beings don’t want to listen to a contrary opinion. I hope they will read my piece anyway. Everything that I have to say in this essay will be sourced; I am not making this stuff up.
