Boredom

Are you ever bored? Is boredom a recurrent problem for you?

The mind is always running, and it wants stuff to think about. When all it can think about is “I have nothing to think about,” that is boredom. When all it can think about is “I have nothing to do,” that is boredom. Many of us cope with boredom by dulling the mind’s insistence on thinking by taking drugs, by drinking alcohol, by watching TV, by playing solitaire or by watching our smartphone waiting for the universe to talk to us.

If you are the only thing that you care about, you are the problem as you are a boring person!

There is an easy solution to boredom.
Reconnect with your childhood dreams, let them talk to you about things to think about, things to do. That is your path, follow it.
- AND/OR -
Get interested in something that is NOT about you. Can you not connect with any subject that is not yourself? Science, history, literature, music, the arts, sports, humor, whatever. Begin to dive into that pool, learn everything you can about that subject, make it a passion. If that fails, you did your best, now try another subject. Worst case scenario, you will become a Jeopardy champion.
Simple! Boredom is an active mind with nothing to think about, nothing to do. Consider yourself blessed for having an active mind. Put it to work thinking or doing something interesting, that is NOT about yourself. Even writing a diary or a journal fills the bill even though it is about you; because writing forces your mind to concentrate and focus, both of which involve thinking and acting. At the end of every session, you will feel good about having DONE something that was not about feeling good; and you will feel good about it. Some self-help gurus have made a living selling self-esteem, as a psychological prize. Fuck that! Real self-esteem is about doing things and feeling good about your accomplishments. Avoid all self-help books and seminars; just find something to do and do it, something to think about and think about it, something to learn more about and learn more about it.

It shouldn’t be that hard to find something to be interested in, to be passionate about. If you can’t, consider cutting your throat!    That should wake you up.
